McLaren will use their traditional race colours when they take to the test track in Jerez this week. With the new MP4-21 not due until later this month, Pedro de la Rosa and Gray Paffett will be at the wheel of the interim MP4-20, complete with orange livery.

The orange is synonymous with the origins of McLaren, as the team ran their Formula One and Can-Am racers in the colour for a number of years starting with the M5A in 1968.

McLaren’s final 2006 colour scheme is likely to be revealed at the MP4-21’s official launch, date to be confirmed. However, the car will get its first test outing some time in January.

For this week, however, Paffett and de la Rosa will continue work in the latest version of last year’s car, fitted with Mercedes’ 2006-specification V8 engine. McLaren have a four day programme planned at Jerez, starting on Wednesday.
